Why it matters to distinguish between core and non-core features in softwares used by e-commerce services

To build trust with their clients and partners and to be seen as re- liable, merchants need to operate their service 365 days per year, seven days a week, and 24 hours a day. Therefore, one of the goals of e-commerce services is to prevent software bugs.

Bugs are inevitable. However, bugs are inevitable in the process of developing new software features. For example, bugs may happen when an e-commerce platform is upgraded and the plugin does not support the new version.

Core and non-core features. More generally, the further away the software components are from the core programs, the less these programs are tested and the more likely it is that bugs will occur. In fact, software platforms for e-commerce, e.g., Magento, PrestaShop, and WooCommerce, have core and non-core features.
