Manual verification is the process of having reviewers manually check the characteristics of the order being made. Timewise, reviews are either carried out before shipping the product or after the product is shipped and delivered.
Timing of payment reviews
Reviews are carried out before or after shipping.
|Before shipping||To prevent payment fraud.|
|After shipping||Chargeback has escalated.|
Post mortem reviews
Post mortem reviews exist to figure out what went wrong in the payment verification process and to see what could be improved so this type of chargeback does not repeat.
Three types of reviews
Given the two types of timewise reviews, we also distinguish between three review subtypes, i.e., normal reviews, peer reviews, and external peer reviews.
|Normal review||When risk operation analysts evaluate the level of risk of a payment on their own.|
|Peer-review||When analysts request that their colleagues perform a formal or an informal peer review.|
|External peer-review||When an expert analyst who is not a member of the team is called in to review a payment.|
